a phiLOVEdelphia story: A Joyful First Look

It was decided very early on that Mr. Turkey and I would do a first look.

First, we live together, so any "bad luck" worries were out the door. Second, our wedding ceremony was late (6:30pm).  And, finally, one of Mr. Turkey's only requests (throughout the entire planning process) was to attend the cocktail hour.

So, based on the Turkey-created schedule for the day, we had ample time to do photos before officially becoming Mr. and Mrs.

All photos are by Philip Gabriel Photography.

Totally unplanned, but in holding my veil, I have a pose like the Rittenhouse statue
Up until this moment, I was cool, calm and collected. No angry stomach issues, no tears...just excitement. However, as I walked out of the hotel and towards Rittenhouse Square, there were a lot of emotions rising in the back of my throat.

Walking to the Square
I was working hard to hold it together by talking to Gabe and the videographer, Adam. Oh, and trying to keep my veil under control (this would be a theme throughout the day).

Smiles despite the emotions
And as I stood there in the park, waiting mere moments for Mr. Turkey to arrive, I became verklempt.

This is just after a huge breath to calm down - you can actually see it in our trailer video
But before I knew it, there he was, eliminating all those overwhelming emotions and instead taking my voice up 3 octaves and my joy level off the charts.

love love LOVE
No acting here, this was 100% my honest to goodness reaction
The two photos above are, without question, my favorites of this series. From the true expression of happiness on my our faces to my out of control veil, they are completely real and full of movement and emotion. I am so very happy that we have this moment captured in photo and video form.

Our remaining moments of the first look included hugs, kisses and lots of "checking out" the other's attire.

Going in for the hug
Checking out Brother Turkey's work on the bow tie
Our first kiss on May 12, 2012
Noting that he had seen the flower detail during my hair trial
After those few precious moments alone, we were told it was time to get moving and meet up with our bridal party.

Walking through Rittenhouse Square - the first time of three during our wedding day
Yup, this is actually happening!
Once we got on the trolley, we were surrounded by our favorite people and ready to have some fun taking photos around Philadelphia!

Look at all the hands on that veil
Are you doing a first look for your wedding? Why or why not?
