a phiLOVEdelphia story: Cocktail Hour in the Cassatt Lounge (and Garden)

While Mr. Turkey and I took a quick stroll around the square and checked out the reception space, our guests were settling in at the Rittenhouse Hotel's Cassatt Lounge and Garden for cocktail hour.

All photos are by Philip Gabriel Photography, unless otherwise noted.

Besides plenty of beverages (including our signature spiked blueberry lemonade cocktail) and mingling, our guests were treated to delicious appetizers from the Rittenhouse. We decided to focus on passed appetizers over stations due to the "flow" of the room.

If you're hungry, I recommend skipping ahead...Turkey Dad is Italian and he wanted to make sure everyone had enough to eat!

Passed Appetizers

  • Wild mushroom, spinach & marscapone in phyllo (Rittenhouse Flower signature app
  • House made franks in a jacket with mustard dipping sauce
  • Smoked salmon "Croque Monsier" with gruyere cheese (served open face)
  • Breaded and fried garlic, feta stuffed green olives
  • House made pizza with smoked duck and hoisin
  • Mini grilled cheese with tomato soup shooters
  • Individual mac & cheese with crisp bread crumb topping
  • Roasted red pepper confit and aged provolone on crispy polenta
Although we didn't get any pro pics of our appetizers, this guest photo shows that people did enjoy the food!
Stations
  • Mediterranean Salad - roasted garlic & chick pea hummus, white bean & rosemary puree, kalamata olive tampanade with basil, grilled eggplant babaghanoush with red onions and lemon, marinated feta cheese with oven dried tomatoes & oregano, roasted asparagus and parma prosciutto salad with white balsamic vinaigrette & olive oil, pita and bagel chips
  • Antipasto - a selection of grilled fresh vegetables dressed with EVOO, roasted peppers, marinated mushrooms & artichoke hearts, assorted italian meats and cheeses, focaccia, olive bread and garlic bread sticks
Eating and drinking in the garden (thanks, weather, for giving us access to the extra space)
As I mentioned before, Mr. Turkey and I had a few moments alone inside the hotel to taste the appetizers. The Rittenhouse gave us a platter of all the selections to try...YUM! Mr. Turkey loved the the mini franks (think fancy pigs in a blanket), while I was partial to the mini grilled cheese.

Not only were we happy to try the food we selected (and eat, period - we'd heard the wedding horror stories), the private tasting also allowed us to keep our hands empty for when we joined the guests at cocktail hour. Don't worry, we found other ways to fill them!

Manly hug
Happy to see a good friend
With almost 200 guests at our wedding, attending the cocktail hour gave us extra time to socialize and thank our guests for joining us in Philadelphia. And eat some more mini grilled cheeses... :)

Do you plan to attend your cocktail hour? Promise me you'll eat some of your appetizers!
