The Lasts...and the Firsts

You go through a lot of "lasts" before the wedding hits, but I think reality really clicked in when Mr. Turkey and I celebrated our final weekend before becoming Mr. & Mrs.

Although perhaps we should have been doing some wedding related tasks, we decided instead to enjoy the time...and celebrate some "firsts" during our last weekend of singledom.

I'll start from the beginning...

Knowing that we were on our final weekend before "I do", Mr. Turkey and I planned to keep it low key. Unfortunately, our original Friday night plans (dinner & a movie) were foiled by both of us working later than expected. Boo.

So, we decided to take a walk and find a place in the city for dinner. The first two locations we checked were full (we didn't feel like waiting) and our meandering somehow took us to 17th Street.

Mr. Turkey: "Want to go to Branzino?"
Miss Turkey: "Well, that's where we had our first date."
Mr. Turkey: "Would be kind of cool to go full circle, don't you think?"

Gnocchi for Mr. Turkey, rabbit ragu for me
And thus began the theme of the weekend...celebrating some of our "firsts" and "favorites" in Philadelphia.

Saturday morning, Mr. Turkey had to get his "last" haircut and we decided to take a route that followed the commute we made when working together. This included a stop at a Dunkin' Donuts that we frequented more than we care to admit (true story - the manager remembered us...we haven't been there in over a year).

Mmmm egg and cheese croissant
Unfortunately the commute out to the suburbs also meant that we had to deal with the traffic coming back! Yeah, we don't miss that.

Once back in the city, we decided to enjoy some time wandering before dinner. This is a favorite weekend activity of ours...just walking around Philadelphia, seeing where the day takes us. This day it took us to some stores (where we may or may not have purchased some last minute wedding gifts) and the park.

Mr. Turkey perused the history section, while I read up on Hawaii
Rittenhouse Square - can more grass grow in 1 week?
Dinner was extra special because it was a celebration of another "first" for the Turkeys...the first meal after our engagement! MOH J had very kindly given us a gift certificate to Matyson a few months earlier and we had been saving it for a special occasion. This seemed to fit the bill!

We enjoyed yet another amazing meal at (arguably) our favorite BYOB in the city and couldn't believe that it had been 14 months since our last visit...the time had flown by.

We only talked about the wedding in terms of what we were most excited for (no details or to dos) and it.was.perfect. Mr. Turkey and I went into our last work week relaxed and with clear heads - no stress allowed!

Ladies, I cannot recommend this enough.

If there is any way to avoid spending your final weekend buried in wedding "stuff", do it. Life is too short and trust me, you'll be a lot happier if you remember the great dinner you had with your fiance versus barking orders at him as he stuffs the gift bags. I promise you, no matter how much you procrastinate (due to wedding-itis or otherwise), everything that needs to get done will get done!

Now, how this choice of action translated into the wedding day / weekend remains to be seen (you'll have to find out in the recaps), but I must say, we were very happy with our decision and are thrilled to have fun memories from the weekend before the wedding!

How did you (do you plan to) spend the final weekend before the wedding?
