a phiLOVEdelphia story: Views at the Vesper

After the rehearsal we headed towards the Vesper Boat Club for dinner. It was a beautiful night, so we popped the windows and sat in traffic took a leisurely drive to Boathouse Row

The trolleys meant we got to travel in style and enjoy the city. However, there were more photos from inside than outside!

Some trolley pics
I talked a while back about how we had to keep our rehearsal dinner size down due to space constraints, but we did add one guest to the list at the last minute. The addition was OK, though, because he wasn't going to take up much room!

Brother Turkey and his VERY special passenger
See, I decided to get Mr. Turkey a groom's cake. Other Bees have talked about options and their ultimate selections (ArcherDoe, Scepter), but I never posted about it before since, well, it wasn't much of a decision. There was never a doubt that Mr. Turkey, Phillies fan extraordinaire, would have a Phanatic cake.

He's sticking out his tongue!
Luckily I didn't have to look too far to find a talented confection artist / baker. A former coworker of mine (and Mr. Turkey) opened the Yellow Box Bakery in 2009 and, through Facebook, I was able to see all her delicious work. I was so happy that she was able to make this cake for us! Besides being tasty (marble cake with buttercream frosting on top, peanut butter frosting on bottom), the Phanatic became a bit of a "mascot" for the evening!

With the cooperative weather, cocktail hour was mostly enjoyed outdoors, along with some stunning views of Philadelphia. Mr. Turkey and I were so happy that our wedding weekend vision of sharing the city with our family and friends was working out so well.

Just a few clouds and, as you can see to the right (on the black building), 72 degrees - perfect

Mr. Turkey's parents were the generous hosts of the rehearsal dinner and spoiled the guests with a beautiful (and tasty) spread from DiBruno Bros., a Philadelphia staple.

I really wish this photo included the yummy meat & cheese
After a lovely cocktail hour, FIL Turkey gave a toast followed by a delicious dinner and Cousin L's beautiful slideshow. For a third time, she created a wonderful video for me and Mr. Turkey.

Mr. Turkey and I chose to say a little something after dinner (unscripted), thanking everyone for being with us that evening and the whole wedding weekend. It was then that we handed out gifts (to our special guests, groomsmen & bridesmaids). As mentioned before, it was Mr. Turkey's story about his gift for Best Man M that drew tears - thank goodness it was last!

Gifting the Turkey parents
After gifts, it was time to eat some delicious desserts...including the Phanatic!

About to cut the cake...shame, since it's SO pretty!
After the first cut was made, things got a little silly with the Phanatic and he, unfortunately ended up a bit gutted. Oh well...he was yummy!

This is just a sampling of the Phanatic photos from the evening
The evening ended with more views of Philadelphia (this time after dark),

and then a ride back to The Rittenhouse Hotel.

Since it was relatively early, many people had plans to head out for a bit (Mr. Turkey included), especially since many other wedding guests had arrived in town. Yet it was at this time that things went a bit downhill for me.

I've shared my angry stomach issues before, including how I felt good after the relaxation earlier on this Friday. Unfortunately, it decided to strike just about the time that we boarded the trolleys back to Center City. Luckily the windows were open, but even fresh air couldn't help me from counting the blocks before we arrived at the hotel. I was an incredibly rude bride-to-be, nearly running off the trolley and towards my room (good-byes and "good nights" were absent, except a brief one to Mr. Turkey). This made for an unfortunately abrupt end to such a wonderful, happy day.

However, this turn of events did mean I was extremely happy with my decision to spend the night before the wedding alone. I curled up in PJs and a comfy robe, drank some Sprite and hoped for restful sleep and a happier stomach in the morning.

Oh how grateful I was for the hotel's amenities
Where's your rehearsal dinner? Any brides (plan to) spend the night before their wedding alone?
