Our Engagement Party

Planning a wedding isn't easy. Let's face it, a lot of feelings come out and relationships (and wallets) are strained during this otherwise joyous process. Sometimes this comes from tough relationships between daughters and their mothers.

I can say, now 9 months in, that my mom and I are no worse for the wear despite the ups and downs that have come before us. I'm not going deep on you right now, though. Instead, I wanted to talk about how my mom's excitement and involvement in our wedding planning has brought us closer together. You heard how she helped secure our venue, but coming up next is her best effort yet.

Granted, I am biased, but I wanted to share with you the details of our party as they may serve as great inspiration for any events you may be hosting.

To celebrate our engagement, over Easter, my mom invited family and friends north for a little soiree. I knew she was taking it to the next level when I saw this.

That's right, my mom made envelope liners!
The invitation included one of our favorite pictures together
Believe it or not, for the envelope liners*, she followed a tutorial I had put online from a wedding shower invitation suite. In fact, she said a lot of her inspiration came from online sources. I was very impressed that she could find stuff online by all the details.

Since we had decided on "non-girly" colors, she incorporate purple in the engagement party (it's one of my favorite colors). That's right, Mr. Turkey would just have to deal. Here are some photos of the event - enjoy!
Place settings - included little photo frames with pictures of us
The Hershey kisses had a lot of different sayings on the back - our names, our wedding date, etc.

Water bottles for the future Mr. and Mrs.

Cupcakes with ring candy
The full dessert table - YUM
Little favor bags of M&Ms with our monogram (to be)
And, because no party is complete without those celebrating...

"Kids" photo - cousins and siblings
The "Adults"
Have any of you found your parents "out-crafting" you during the wedding process?

*She also followed my tutorial for water bottle labels, but unfortunately since they said "Future Mr. and Mrs. Last Name", I had to blur out a lot!
