Skipping...

There has been a decent amount of wedding tradition talk in the past month - from ceremony locations to walking down the aisle to handfasting to the (ever debated) dollar dance.

A few things were still being debated, but with our band's deadline for information (on songs, speeches, etc) quickly approaching, we needed to make decisions...and moving this post from draft to published was a great impetus to finish things up!

Although a lot of our wedding is traditional (white dress, first dance, etc.), we chose to skip some things. Some were just personal preference, but other decisions came from the fact that Mr. Turkey and I have attended a lot of weddings together and were simply burnt out!

So, without further ado, here are some of the traditions the Turkeys have chosen to skip.

To Follow or Not to Follow (the Registry)

I have a wedding shower coming up at the end of April and since I am going to be one of the younger attendees (or so I think), I thought it might be fun to give something that's not strictly on the registry and perhaps a little more "fun" (see Miss Fox's fabulous DIY monogram gift). I know some people take serious issue with off-the-registry gifts, but I'm not in that camp myself.

Throughout my posts, I think you've seen that I love to give unique gifts; some creative and DIY (bachelorette ideas here and here) and others personalized to the event / couple / bride (engagement ideas here and here). Well, this upcoming event seemed like a good time to expand to bridal showers, staying away from your traditional china or crystal. Looking for the Hive's help with some of the ideas I'm considering!

Dress Adventure - Part I

Unfortunately this isn't as exciting as the search for the dress (I shared some of those not chosen here), but I did want to share the journey of my dress as it is making a longer commute for the wedding than me! Our venue is only a few blocks away from where we live, but the dress is coming from NYC / wherever the designer made it and has already had quite an adventure.

Let's back up first...in February (just over 6 weeks ago), I mentioned that my dress had arrived and I was SUPER excited. However, due to scheduling difficulties with Kleinfeld, the fitting was scheduled for late March. It was such a tease and I was sad that I had to wait so long to see my dress again.

Luckily, things got busy and I (kind of) forgot about the dress until it arrived one Thursday evening. Now I was excited...and impatient.

It's a dress in a box (makes me think a certain (NSF) SNL skit...is that wrong?)

What Would You Do...

...if you never met me?

I was in my car en route to work earlier this week when I heard a new song on the radio (when the talking heads finally took a break) that made me think. Called "Woman Like You", the song (country, of course) involves a conversation between a man and a woman, where she asks him what he would do if he never met her.

It's cute...go ahead, listen below.

A Bee's Life - Turkey Edition

I know it's been a while since one of these posts have gone up, but I've always enjoyed reading how the bloggers found Weddingbee and it was really helpful to understand the expectations / reality before applying. So, here's my story!

Eat a little...of a lot!

Today I'm here to talk about wedding food inspiration...of the miniature size. Yup, that's right, Mr. Turkey and I are hopping on the trend bandwagon and serving some mini foods.

Although we were fans of mini foods well before they were identified as a "top trend", our introduction to tiny treats did come at a wedding!

Turkey Invitation Reveal!

I know, I already teased you once, but it finally seems safe to do our invitation reveal!

RSVPs have been coming in fast and furious. In fact, we've only received 3 "NOs" so far (all of which we knew beforehand) and our guest list has hit above 120...not including several of our bridal party members.

But more on that later...our invitations were designed by Two Paperdolls and, just like with our Save the Dates, we had a fabulous experience. From sending paper samples when we was wavering on details to shipping the envelopes first...can't say enough positive things. The paper products for our wedding were extremely important to me (and worth a splurge) and now, seeing the final product - I could not possibly be happier!

OK, I'll stop yapping now and show some pictures. Without further ado...the Turkey invitations!

On Wearing White

This post could also be titled "How Many is Too Many?"

Several fellow Bees (Fox, Mink, Uni and more) have spoken about wearing "other" white dresses (you know, besides THE white dress) and I was planning to wait a bit to share my thoughts / story, but some recent emails told me it was the right time.

A Special Rehearsal Dinner Spot

Once upon a time, a bride told you about how she and her groom wanted to avoid ballrooms and focus only on unique venues. A little hiccup changed those plans for them (all for the better in the end), but they did not want to give up entirely.

So, the bride and groom went back to some original inspiration, and decided to look at unique Philadelphia venues for their rehearsal dinner...and found one!

Thank You Now...or Thank You Later?

So...our wedding invitations went out last week!

Reveal to come soon...believe it or not, some of our guests still haven't received theirs!
Since then, there has been a flurry of mail at Turkey Mom & Dad's house (all RSVPs say "YES" so far!) and we have been receiving mail here as well.

I am sure our mail person hates us

Up and Out (of the way)

It's hard to believe that I was complaining about hair issues 2 months ago...feels like just yesterday, but yet here I am, 60 days later with more hair to talk about my hair trial. Unlike my pathetic attempt at inspiration for the makeup trial, I actually pulled together some pictures for this.

The theme of the look I was going for was unstructured but secure. Part of the goal of having my hair up was to reduce worry, but I didn't want something super tight.

Shower Invite Tutorial (by Turkey Mom)

On Monday, I showed you the super fun mail that came last week, courtesy of Turkey Mom.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the bridesmaids are hosting the shower
As impressed as I was with the work she put into our engagement party, I was blown away by the effort required to create these invites. I asked Turkey Mom if she wouldn't mind writing a guest post (she can join Mr. Turkey as a guest poster) about how she made these and she graciously agreed.

So, Hive, please say hello to Turkey Mom!!

Mr. & Mrs.

For some brides, there's one theme or "thing" that they are drawn to in almost any form. Whether it's birds or burlap; wine corks or woodwork...they find themselves constantly pinning items on Pinterest or creating favorites on Etsy. If they're lucky enough, sometimes there are even mainstream retailers to feed the addiction. Not that I would know ANYTHING about this type of problem...

Orrrrrrr...I'm totally living it.

Hi, my name is Miss Turkey and I have a crush. On anything and everything that says "Mr. & Mrs." I don't know what it is - maybe the ampersand or the fact that I am REALLY excited to be a MRS. - but either way, I'm constantly browsing (and trying not to buy).
